The Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) is also referred by its subtypes that is Metal Active Gas(MAG) Welding or Metal Inert Gas (MIG) Welding. It is a welding process in which the electric arc is formed between the work piece metal and the wire electrode. The metal piece is heated that caused it to melt and join with the electrode. A shielding gas is put through the welding gun that shields the gamut from air contamination. The working process can be both automatic and semi-automatic. A direct constant current is commonly used with GMAW that also ensure constant voltage. There are mainly four primary ways to transfer metal in GMAW that are short circuiting, globular, spray and pulsed spray. Each of the method has distinct features, benefits and disadvantages. All kinds of metals like Argon+CO2, Argon can be welded in this process depending on the metal’s strength. Argon (inert gas) is used for the manufacturing of stainless steel, aluminum etc. On the other active gas or mixture of argon with C02 is needed for welding of mild steel.

Diode based MIG/MAG (CO2) Welding machine

It is a constant source of voltage power in which the output voltage is selected in steps. The voltage that has been selected remains constant most of the times but also fluctuates simultaneously with the fluctuation of input supply voltage. For consumable electrode feeding what is used is consumable electrode. A spool of wire is generally mounted on the wire feeder that has either two or four roll mechanisms. It is further driven by a permanent DC magnet motor or a print motor with servo control to assure feeding of wire.

With the use of flow meter and regulator the gas flow rate is controlled manually. The carbon dioxide gas is hygroscopic in nature and therefore it can absorb the moisture as soon the air is released from the pressurized cylinder. Besides, an advance preheater is used in the gas supply line after the cylinder that is used for the heating gets spoils.

Thyristorised MIG/MAG (CO2) Welding machine

Thyristorised MIG/MAG (CO2) Welding power is generally a constant voltage power source but at times it also provides a constant current feature as an option. It has a feedback control to maintain a constant set voltage and in this the output voltage can be set step less. Such advance power sources are most of the time available with synergy options and sound programmable options. Some essential accessories that are used in the manufacturing of the welding machinery are welding torch gas flow meter, wire feeder, gas preheater etc. This kind of power sources generally produces better quality of welding.
